The Dhammapada is one of the best known and best loved Buddhist texts, a sequence of verses traditionally said to have been spoken by the Buddha himself to help people on the path to liberation. In her version for Penguin Classics, Valerie J Roebuck seeks to translate the Pali into modern English verse that will keep the beauty and clarity of the original.

June11

Valerie took part in the 2011 Manchester Buddhist Convention on Saturday June 11, which was hosted this year by the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community (formerly FWBO) at the Manchester Buddhist Centre, 16-20 Turner Street, Manchester M4 1DZ.

As part of this event, she gave a talk with readings on her translation of the Dhammapada. She very much enjoyed sharing this with members of many different Buddhist traditions, as well as taking part in other events and discussions on the day. A most worthwhile event, and she hopes that the people who came to her session enjoyed it as much as she did!
